Cypress represents the Orange Empire Conference in the 2015 CCCAA State Championships held at Bakersfield College.
The Cypress College softball team closed out Orange Empire Conference competition with eight-straight wins to claim the 2015 Orange Empire Conference Championship, its 20th championship in school history. The Chargers posted an 18-3 mark in the OEC, to finish two games ahead of second place Santa Ana College.
Taylor Pierce of Cypress College was named Pitcher of the Year and Emily Whitecavage of Santa Ana College was named Most Valuable Player.
The Cypress College softball team (26-7, 13-3 OEC) defeated the visiting Santa Ana College Dons (21-11, 13-3 OEC) in five innings on Wednesday afternoon to move into a tie for the OEC's top spot.
After one round of OEC competition, Cypress College and Saddleback College sit atop the conference standings with matching 6-1 records.
Saddleback softball coach Nick Trani reached a new milestone on Wednesday when he opened his 21st season as the head coach with a 6-5 win over Grossmont College in eight innings. It was the 500th win for Trani at Saddleback, and started the Gaucho season off on a high note.
