The Cypress College softball team closed out Orange Empire Conference competition with eight-straight wins to claim the 2015 Orange Empire Conference Championship, its 20th championship in school history. The Chargers posted an 18-3 mark in the OEC, to finish two games ahead of second place Santa Ana College.
During that eight game winning streak, Cypress moved itself into a tie with Santa Ana with a 10-1 victory over the Dons on April 8. Santa Ana would drop two more games before the season ended, allowing Cypress to claim the top spot.
The Dons turned in a 16-5 conference mark to take second place for the second-straight season. Santa Ana will join Cypress in the postseason as the two teams will represent the Orange Empire Conference's automatic qualifiers.
While the Chargers were able to pull away late, the championship was up for grabs for several games as Santa Ana and Saddleback both held at least a share of the conference lead at some point in the season. All three teams, Cypress, Santa Ana and Saddleback, were all tied for first place on March 18.
Saddleback College finished with a 15-6 record to finish third behind the Dons, and two games ahead of Santiago Canyon College in fourth place. Fullerton College grabbed fifth place while Riverside City College finished in sixth place. Golden West College and Orange Coast College rounded out the standings in a tie for seventh place.
