NAPA, CA – The California Community College Athletic Association men's golf state championship will be decided on Monday, May 13, at the Silverado Resort and Spa and eight of the state's top teams will be battle for a shot at making history during the one-day, 36-hole event.
The Cypress College men's golf team claimed the Orange Empire Conference title this week on the Royal Vista Golf Club course on a dark and drizzly Monday. But it would be all sunshine and smiles for the Chargers at the end of the one-day, 36-hole championship event as they captured their first conference golf title since 1976.
Orange Coast edged Cypress by nine strokes to win the final Orange Empire Conference match of the regular season on Monday at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, creating a two-way tie for the conference lead heading into the one-day, 36-hole conference championship tournament on April 29 at the Royal Vista golf course in Walnut.
Cypress moved back into a tie for first place in the conference standings after winning this week's Orange Empire Conference match on the Babe course at Industry Hills.
The Mt. San Antonio College men's golf team climbed to the top of the Orange Empire Conference standings this week after winning last week's conference match at Victoria Country Club in Riverside and finishing second to Orange Coast at this week's match on the Costa Mesa Country Club's Los Lagos course.
David Marris shot a 3-under-par 69 to earn individual medalist honors and lead Cypress to a six-shot victory over Mt. San Antonio College in an Orange Empire Conference match held at the Tustin Ranch Golf Course recently.
The defending state champion Cypress College men's golf team returned to top form in the Orange Empire Conference's second match of the season, besting the field by 27 strokes this week on the Chargers' home course of Candlewood with a team score of 361.
