This historic 2022 season for the Orange Coast College women's water polo program continues to add chapters to the book as the Pirates topped Long Beach City and Santa Barbara to win the 2022 Southern California Regional Women's Water Polo championship on Friday and Saturday at Long Beach City College.
Championship Saturday came and went, but not without dramatics and fireworks. Two teams came away with the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship title at tournament’s end as the Golden West College Rustler’s men’s team claimed their 33rd straight, while the Orange Coast College women’s team reigned supreme in an eight-overtime battle against top-seeded Fullerton.
The Fullerton College Hornets and the Orange Coast College Pirates will square off on Saturday to compete for an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships after Fullerton won their lone game of the day, while the Pirates route was a bit more challenging.
The Fullerton Hornets were picked to repeat as Orange Empire Conference champions, according to the sports information directors in the conference. The Hornets have won at least a share of the past three Orange Empire Conference titles.
