Conference Tennis Tournament Underway at Saddleback

The Orange Empire Conference women's tennis championship tournament is underway at Saddleback College this week with no major upsets being recorded on the first day.  All four of the top seeds in both singles and doubles cruised to victories on Thursday and will continue playing on Friday.

Hali Dickson (Orange Coast), the top-seeded singles player, had no trouble advancing to the Round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Saddleback's Maddie Serklew.  Dickson teamed with Emily Nickles as the No. 3 seeded doubles team and defeated the Fullerton College duo of Jackie Kerr and Tiffany Banks, 6-1, 6-0.   

 Acacia Dettman (Riverside) is seeded second in singles and eliminated Lindsay Clawson (Orange Coast), 6-0, 6-0.  Dettman is the top-seed in doubles and teamed up with Shelia James to win their first-round match against Ida Sounalath and Jennifer Ramirez (Cypress).

 The round of 16 and quarterfinal rounds of singles will be played on Friday with the semifinals and finals slated for Saturday.  The quarterfinal round in doubles will also be played on Friday.
