Irvine Valley's Sally Kim Named OEC Player of the Year
Irvine Valley College freshman Sally Kim was named as the Orange Empire Conference women’s golf Player of the Year on Wednesday following the final round of the two-day, 36-hole conference championship event.
Irvine Valley College freshman Sally Kim was named as the Orange Empire Conference women's golf Player of the Year on Wednesday following the final round of the two-day, 36-hole conference championship event held at the Los Serranos Country Club's north course in Chino Hills. Kim, who averaged 76.4 strokes in conference, edged out sophomore teammate Foya Lazare (76.7) by two strokes with a final round score of 82 to overtake Lazare who had a one-stroke lead heading into Wednesday's round before carding an 85.
The pair was joined on the first-team all-conference list by teammates Halle Young (79.2) and Chelsea Kasprowicz (81.7), with Saddleback College sophomore Hanna Stuart (81.9) and Fullerton sophomore Kristen Foss (83.6) also earning first-team honors.
Earning second-team all-conference honors were Santa Ana College sophomore Justine Bresnahan (84.1), Irvine Valley sophomore Taylor Moore (84.4), Fullerton freshmen Paulina Dejamco (84.4) and Brittni Plavala (85.8), along with Saddleback sophomore Stephanie Raymundo (85.4) and freshman Jazmin Grajales (85.3).
Saddleback freshman Jess Kootsouradis captured medalist honors at the OEC Championship event, fighting off high winds on the second day to shoot a 36-hole total of 159 (81-78). She shared the lead with Lazare after the first day and then was the only player to break 80 in the tournament, posting a 4-over-par 78 on the second day to earn medalist honors. IVC's Kim (83-82) and Fullerton's Foss (83-82) shared runner-up medalist mention at the conference championship event.
Irvine Valley won the conference title with a 28-0 record. Saddleback placed second with a 21-7 mark, followed by Fullerton (13-14), Cuyamaca (7-21), and Santa Ana. Both Irvine Valley and Saddleback will advance to the Southern California regional tournament on November 7 and 8 at the Twin Oaks golf course in San Marcos, as well as all 12 all-conference selections.
