Women's Hoops in Tight Battle Atop Standings
Cypress College and Irvine Valley College head into the final two games tied atop the standings.
The 2015-16 women's basketball regular season is coming to a close this week and two teams sit atop the Orange Empire Conference standings. Both Cypress College and Irvine Valley College share the top spot with matching 8-2 records while splitting their head-to-head matchups.
Cypress rebounded from an OEC-opening loss to Orange Coast College with a six-game winning streak, including a 78-62 win over Irvine Valley, before the Lasers returned the favor with a 45-42 defeat on February 3. Irvine Valley's only other loss also came against Orange Coast, by a score of 56-50.
This week, both teams are facing the team sitting in third place, Santa Ana College, with both of those games happening at Santa Ana. The Dons have strung together four-straight victories to take a half-game edge over Riverside City College in the standings.
The first matchup is tonight when the Dons host Cypress College for the third time this season. The Chargers hold a 2-0 mark over the Dons with wins of 73-66 and 81-75. Cypress then closes out the season at home against Fullerton College on Friday night. The first meeting was a 56-43 Cypress victory.
The Lasers face off tonight against Riverside City College with the host Tigers looking to make a push into the top-3 of the standings. Irvine Valley will then travel to Santa Ana on Friday night for the season finale.
