Irvine Valley holds edge halfway through women's basketball season
The Lasers are currently undefeated in OEC play with Cypress close behind with just one loss.
Following the first game of the second round of Orange Empire Conference competition, the Irvine Valley College Lasers sit in first place of the standings, just one game ahead of Cypress College.
The Lasers hold the advantage over Cypress thanks to an undefeated 7-0 record in conference play, including a 71-64 victory over the Chargers on January 21 at Cypress College. The two teams will meet again at Irvine Valley on February 12.
The loss to Irvine Valley is the only blemish on the Chargers conference record as they hold a 6-1 mark in the OEC. The Chargers had to battle for that record with a conference-opening win over Saddleback College in overtime followed by a three-point win over Riverside City College.
Following the top two teams is the aforementioned Riverside City College Tigers with a 4-3 mark, just ahead of Saddleback and Fullerton with both those teams holding a 3-4 record. Santa Ana College sits in sixth place with a 1-5 record while Orange Coast College rounds out the OEC.
Competition continues on February 4 with Cypress traveling to Riverside, Fullerton playing at Orange Coast and Saddleback hosting Santa Ana. All game times are 7:00 p.m. Conference frontrunner Irvine Valley has the bye and plays next on February 6 when they host district-rival Saddleback.
