Conference Champs Cypress Get MVP and Coach of the Year

SANTA ANA - At the annual postseason Orange Empire Conference meeting, the women's basketball coaches voted Cypress College's Sloan Turner the OEC Most Valuable Player and Margaret Mohr the OEC Coach of the Year.

Cypress won the OEC title with an 11-1 mark and were rewarded with five All-OEC selections. Turner finished fourth in the OEC with 12.9 points per game and first with 10.7 rebounds per game. She was joined by teammates Chelsea Walton and Jeana Magana on the First Team. Receiving Second Team honors for Cypress was Samantha Soria and Doreen Lopez.

Irvine Valley College and Riverside City College finished tied for second place, with each school getting three representatives on the All-OEC list. Shomari McCorkle and Amber Wharton from IVC were named First Team while Jasmine Kennon was named Second Team. Riverside City placed Neka Hunter and Kayla Johns on the First Team with Leilani Chavez being named Second Team.

Saddleback College was represented on the First Team by Myishia Watkins, who finished third in scoring in the OEC, and Karla Roacha-Cota on the Second Team.

Orange Coast College followed with conference leading scorer Dayanara Armenta on the First Team and Michelle Angel on the Second Team.

Fullerton College placed Amber Washington and Stephanie Drayer on the Second Team while Santa Ana College rounded out the list with Berlin Ohanesian on the First Team and Ashley Whisler on the Second Team.
