OCC and Cypress Softball Share Conference Title and Awards
The 2025 Orange Empire Conference Softball title came down to the final week of the season as the Cypress Chargers put themselves in position to catch the first place Orange Coast Pirates with three games left to play. Following a sweep of Golden West, the Chargers secured a share of the 2025 OEC Championship while the Pirates celebrated clinching their first title in 33 years.
Orange Coast posted a 15-3 record and was led by their standout sophomore third baseman, Jasmyn Morales. The slugger from Sunny Hills High was voted the OEC Most Valuable Player after hitting .368 while driving 22 runs and collecting five home runs in conference play.
The Pirates also boasted three players (including Morales) who earned spots on the first team all-conference, along with three more who made the second team, showcasing the depth of their roster.
Meanwhile, the Cypress Chargers were equally formidable, matching the Pirates' record and earning a few individual awards themselves. Their freshman star pitcher, Haley Tucker, earned the 2025 Orange Empire Conference Pitcher of the Year award after throwing every inning in OEC play. Tucker led the OEC in wins at 15 and innings pitched at 118 to go with 64 strikeouts and a 2.43 ERA.
In addition, the Chargers saw Nanea Kyle's play in the outfield earn her the title of Defensive Player of the Year. The sophomore also hit .424 with 10 runs batted in. The Chargers celebrated three players who made the first team all-conference and one on the second team.
Both teams also claimed the Co-Orange Empire Conference Coaching Staff of the Year award.
The Orange Empire Conference will send four teams to the 3C2A Southern California Regionals this weekend. No.1 OCC and No. 2 Cypress earned the top seeds in the South while Saddleback earned the No. 8 seed and Fullerton got in at No. 10.
