Rafter Leads Charge for Cypress
Matt Rafter posted a 3-under-par 69 at the Black Gold Golf Course on April 5 to help the Cypress Chargers post a team score of 375 in winning the Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Mt. San Antonio College.
Matt Rafter posted a 3-under-par 69 at the Black Gold Golf Course on April 5 to help the Cypress Chargers post a team score of 375 in winning the Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Mt. San Antonio College.
Jeremy Dorff of Orange Coast finished two strokes back at 1-under-par 71 as the Pirates held on for second place, just two strokes back at 377, while Riverside City College would finish thhird (384). The win by Cypress pulled the Chargers to within one victory of the conference lead while Orange Coast's win over Riverside created a tie for the top spot in the conference standings.
Following Rafter's 69, Cypress was aided by Andreas Thanning (75), George Bris (76), Dylan Hall (77) and Andrew Thompson (78) for the Chargers' second conference win of the past three events. Orange Coast saw Tetsu Kase card a 73 and Myles Valentine posted a 75 while Josh McCollum came in with a 76.
Irvine Valley had its best outing of the season, placing fourth (394) as Jinhan Park led the Lasers with a 72. Ryan Cooper added a 74 with Bruce Miranda posting a 79. Saddleback (399) fell to fifth place despite a 74 by Austin Briggs and a 75 from Kirk Edmondson. Mt. San Antonio (405) finished sixth despite solid scores from James Hochsprung (75) and Cole Albert (76).
The teams will play their next conference match at the Costa Mesa Country Club course in a match hosted by Orange Coast College.
