Santiago Canyon Cleans Up at Post-Season Meeting
The Santiago Canyon College Hawks won their 14th straight Orange Empire Conference championship this past week and with team success usually comes individual accolades.
The Santiago Canyon College Hawks won their 14th straight Orange Empire Conference championship this past week and with team success usually comes individual accolades. The Hawks had 10 named All-Orange Empire Conference on Monday night, including a conference MVP and coach-of the-year.
Santiago Canyon finished the season 17-2-1 overall and 14-1-1 in OEC play and are expected to be one of the top seeds for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs, which start later this week. The Hawks were rewarded for their success on Monday night with individual praise when the coaches met at Cypress College to decide the all-conference team.
Two of the headliners were the conference MVP and coach-of-the-year, which went to SCC's Cassie Soto and coach Ian Woodhead, respectively. Soto finished with 10 goals and 12 assists during the course of the season as Santiago Canyon scored a conference-high 54 goals in OEC play. Woodhead captured his 14th straight conference title and has won the award 10 times dating back to 2002.
