Rafter Leads The Chargers' Charge

Cypress College sophomore Matt Rafter posted a 1-under-par at the Candlewood Golf Course on Wednesday to lead the Chargers to a team score of 362 and the win in an Orange Empire Conference men's golf match on Cypress' home course.

No Cypress golfer shot over a 74, helping the Chargers take sole possession over the top spot in the conference standings with the win.  Orange Coast placed second with a team score of 369 while Mt. San Antonio (383) was one stroke better than Saddleback (384), slipping into the third position.

Rafter was joined by teammates George Bris (72), Dalton Davenport (73), and Jay Chang, Burt Gildenhuys, and Andrew Thomson each with 74's.

Orange Coast was paced by a 1-over-par 71 from Bryson Bentley while Myoung Kim and Connor O'Hern each posted 73's.  Mt. San Antonio's James Johnson and David Gillette also posted 73's as did Saddleback's Cole Griffo.

The win by the Chargers (13-2) gives them a one-win lead over Orange Coast (12-3) in the conference standings while Mt. San Antonio (8-7), Riverside (6-9), and Saddleback (6-9) are in a tight race for third.  All six teams will be in action again on Monday (March 12) at Tustin Ranch in a match hosted by Irvine Valley College.
